Today marks the first day of CityFolk, formerly known as Ottawa Folk Festival. The first day was a slow one to start, as the crowds slowly made their way inside. I wasn't sure what to expect because it was my first time attending an event at Lansdowne Park. With only two bands playing today, things were pretty easy going. The only stage in use was the Telus stage, so not much wandering was necessary. However, with everyone confined to the single stage, the park filled up quickly as the bands took stage. First up was The Tubes.
When the band first got on stage, there still wasn't much of a crowd. Understandable though, first band of the day usually has a smaller crowd to start, but do they ever know how to draw people in! They put on an incredible show that not only was it great to watch, but sounded as it would if you were straight in the recording studio with them. These guys have obviously been doing this for a long time.
Next up was UB40, and before they even started, I couldn't believe the crowd that was waiting for them to come out on stage. The crowd size easily rivaled some of the bigger names that graced the stage at Bluesfest.
I'll admit, although I had heard of UB40 before, I had no idea what songs they were known for. Apparently.. Quite a few! Playing hits like Falling In Love With You and Red Red Wine, they really know how to put on a show! All around, I had a blast at the event, it was a little rough trying to get pictures of UB40 from the photo pit, but I managed a few of them. I can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store! CityFolk here I come!!!!
