For those of you that read my blog, I apologize for the lack of updates. I am normally bad for updating this sort of stuff, but in this case, that's not completely the reason. I recently hurt my back lugging gear around to a client shoot, so I ended up spending a lot of time in bed and just relaxing, and took it easy last week to make sure I don't screw myself up even more. I am feeling better now tho, which is good, cause hurting your back sucks so much.
Luckily, I was well enough to attend Pop Expo this weekend at the EY Center. I always go to Comiccon every year, so I was excited to check it out, as it was my first Pop Expo. Was pretty much exactly what you would expect for this sort of thing, but the event itself was much smaller than I had anticipated.
I never go to stuff like this for celebrities tho.. Quite the opposite, I go for the random attendees that spend months of their lives creating some of the most incredible cosplays that you could possibly imagine. After all.. you can get some pretty amazing shots of them.. not so much in a con environment.. but if you meet the people who do these incredible things, there's always the potential to set up a shoot another time. I posted two of my favorites from Pop Expo on this blog.. An original creation by Alix Cosplay of a Shaman, who I thought was incredibly well done, and of course, an amazing Big Boss from WZ Props.. Complete with bionic arm and head shrapnel lol I played the hell out of that game, so I may be a little biased, but you gotta admit, it was incredible well done.
There were a ton of amazing costumes and despite how small the event was, I would still likely go again, but again, for me, the cons aren't about the celebrity guests, its all about the cosplayers. They bring something magical to the conventions and are very welcoming/friendly. I look forward to the next Ottawa Comiccon.. I will definitely be there ;)
